SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A coalition of San Diego-based organizations today backed state legislation that would exempt certain special events from needing environmental reviews.

SB 973, introduced last week by Sen. Juan Vargas, D-San Diego, and co-sponsored by Assemblyman Martin Garrick, R-Carlsbad, would exempt events of a limited duration from provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act.

Fletcher, DeMaio announce fundraising totals PDF Print E-mail

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Councilman Carl DeMaio announced today that he raised nearly $1 million for his mayoral campaign through the end of last year, while Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, said he raked in almost three-quarters of a million dollars.

DeMaio and Fletcher were the first of the four major mayoral candidates to announce their fundraising totals. The deadline for reporting campaign donations through Dec. 31 to the city clerk's office is the end of this month.

The U.S. Postal Service’s plan to sell the building at 1140 Wall St. that has housed the La Jolla post office since 1935 has some thinking about what can be done to maintain the status quo.

“The idea is to somehow find the funds to buy the building,” said Joe LaCava, a La Jolla Community Planning Association trustee. “We could keep the post office in front and find a use for the other end. They could sell the building and negotiate a lease.”
